NASW-NC joins Paid Sick Day Coalition

NASW-NC has joined with other advocacy groups to help push the Paid Sick Days Coalition bill through the short session in 2008. Below is information from Coalition partner the NC Justice Center.

Establish Paid Sick Days (H 1711)
CONTACT: Bill Rowe, General Counsel, (919) 856-2177 THE ISSUE: 42% of NC’s workforce lacks paid sick days and may be fired for missing work to care for their sick child or elderly parent. No state or federal law exists that provides a right to sick days. THIS BILL: Requires employers to allow employees to earn up to 7 sick days a year that may be taken by employees to care for themselves, sick children, spouses, and parents. In addition, employees could not be fired or otherwise retaliated against for taking sick days.
